After quietly battling brain cancer for three years Neil Peart passed away on January 7 in Santa Monica California. Known as one of the greatest technical masters of drum, Peart was a member of rock and roll’s hall of fame band Rush. Although not a founding member of the band, Pearl was known as a staple member. He joined the band before their first U.S. tour replacing founding drummer John Rutsey. He would go on to become one of the bands lyricists after Rush’s debut self-titled LP. Peart had retired from the band back in 2015 due to his diagnosis. This wasn’t the first time he had stepped away from the bad. In 1997 Neil’s daughter, Selena Taylor, was killed in a car accident. This was followed by the death of his common law wife, and Selena’s mother, Jacqueline who lost her battle with cancer less than a year after Selena’s tragic passing. Peart did not return to the band until 2002, just in time to record Rush’s 17th album. Upon the announcement of his passing there was a huge outpouring of condolences and admiration from many of his peers and fellow entertainers. Mr. Neil Peart was survived by his daughter Olivia.
